How To Use Spray Paint To Make Basic Furniture Bomb
We’ve said it before, and we’ll probably keep saying it: the easiest way to give your furniture a fresh new look is with spray paint! (Plus it’s also a lot more affordable.) Material Curls will show you how to use spray paint to take a simple TV stand from basic to bomb with stunning color from COLORSHOT.
What you need:
- COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint – colors of choice (Kale and Lucky Penny shown)
- Wood TV stand
- Cabinet hardware
- Spline
- Nail gun or heavy-duty wood glue
- Drop cloth
Assemble stands if needed
Material Curls had a brand-new simple stand they needed to assemble, but you can also update one you already have! If that’s the case, lightly sand it and wipe it down before painting.
Spray paint a base coat of color onto stand
Now how to use spray paint to make that TV stand, stand out! Since Material Curls were building their stand, they decided to add fun dimension using leftover spline. If you want to try the same idea, first, working outside (or in a well-ventilated area if you can’t work outside), spray paint a base coat of your chosen COLORSHOT color onto the TV stand. (Kale shown here for a nice, moody vibe.)
Attach spline to front of cabinet
If you’re attaching spline to create cool texture on your stand, measure and cut it to fit along the length of the front cabinets. Then use either a nail gun or heavy-duty wood glue to attach the spline along the front. Make sure it’s secure before moving on to the second paint step.
Apply additional coats of spray paint
Get creative with your texture! You can evenly space the spline, or create interesting patterns like Material Curls. Then once you have that set, apply additional light coats of the same color until you are happy with the look. Let dry completely.
Customize your fixtures with spray paint
Before adding your cabinet hardware, customize it with the perfect coordinating COLORSHOT color! (Lucky Penny shown here.) This is a great way to save on spend by simply updating hardware you already have (especially if you are making over a TV stand you already have) – or swooping up some cheap, basic ones then giving them a high-end look.
Apply light coats of spray paint to hardware
You know how to spray paint hardware, right? Apply several light coats instead of one heavy coat to avoid dripping and color pooling. And make sure to rotate the hardware so you cover from every angle (it’s easy to miss spots sometimes)!
Attach fixtures to cabinet
Let the fixtures cure completely before attaching to your cabinet/TV stand.
