COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints (This project uses Farmer’s Daughter and Summer Pedicure)
Paper Barbie decals
XL cardboard box
Measuring tape
Hot glue gun
Pink and white cardstock
Box cutter or scissors
Pink or white ribbon
Protective surface cover
Use a box cutter or scissors to break down an XL cardboard box. Measure and cut a window on the middle panel. Don’t toss the cut cardboard—we’ll be using it for this Barbie box costume in the next step!
Use a pencil to trace your Barbie decals onto the scrap cardboard, then cut with a box cutter or scissors. These will act as borders for your decals on the window of your Barbie box!
Set up your spray painting station in a well-ventilated area. Protect the surrounding area from overspray with a drop cloth or other protective surface cover. Use COLORSHOT White Primer to give your DIY Barbie box costume a white base. This will help cover any printed logos on the cardboard. Allow the primer to dry to the touch.
Once the primer has dried, flip the cardboard box over and spray paint the inside with COLORSHOT in Summer Pedicure. Apply the spray paint in smooth, even strokes and shake often during use.
Reassemble your Barbie box, using a hot glue gun to secure the corners and edges. Use COLORSHOT in Farmer’s Daughter to paint the outside of your Barbie Box and the two cardboard decal borders. Allow the paint to dry to the touch and apply additional coats as desired.
Create a background for the inside of your Barbie box costume with pink and white cardstock. Use Aleene’s Tacky Spray to secure the paper background into place.
It’s time to start assembling your DIY Barbie box costume! Use a hot glue gun to secure the ribbon straps and cardboard decal borders into place. Then use Tacky Spray to adhere the paper decals to the front of the box.
Your life size Barbie box is ready to wear! Put on your favorite pink outfit, then slip your arms through the ribbon straps and secure the waist tie for extra support. This easy DIY Halloween costume idea doubles as a photo booth prop, too!
