Upcycling is a great way to decorate on a budget! Gather the old Christmas ornaments that you’ll be painting and carefully remove any caps and hooks. Use fine-grit sandpaper to roughen any shiny surfaces, then clean your ornaments to make sure they are clean and free of dust and debris.
Place the ornaments onto wooden dowels and move to a well-ventilated area for spray painting. If you don’t have the outdoor space for this project, be sure to lay down a protective surface cover to catch any overspray! Hold one end of the stick and begin spray painting your ornaments, rotating the dowel as needed to evenly cover the entire ornament. Apply several light coats of spray paint until you’re satisfied with the coverage and allow to dry completely.
Repeat step 2 with all of the colors of the rainbow! For this project, Kristie Lauren used Cosmo, Stiletto, Orange Slice, Emoji, With a Twist, Island Girl, and Aromatherapy on their old ornaments for a rainbow Christmas tree. Who knew budget décor could be so colorful?
