Make a First Day of School Sign with COLORSHOT

COLORSHOT First Day of School Sign

Even if your kiddos will be learning from home this semester, you can still celebrate their first day back to school! Norx in the Know shows you how easy it is to make the cutest custom sign for photos using COLORSHOT Premium Paint Products. You can make one to document their first day of the school year, then one for their last to compare how much your student has grown and changed throughout the year!

What you need:

- COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paint in desired background color (Little Black Dress used for this project)

- COLORSHOT Premium Acrylic Paints in desired colors

- COLORSHOT Premium Paint Markers in desired colors

- Picture frame with backing and glass panel

- Thin cardboard cut to fit inside frame

- Paintbrushes

- Stencil (make your own by hand cutting or using a die cutting machine)

- Tape

- Paper plate or paint palette

Create stencil using die cutting machine

Create stencil using die cutting machine

Before creating your first day of school sign, you’re going to need a stencil! If you have a die cutting machine, this will probably be the easiest and fastest way to make your stencil. If not, you can always hand create one on cardstock and use a craft knife to cut out the designs, or simply freehand draw and paint your designs onto the cardboard insert.

Spray paint cardboard, then place stencil on top

Before applying your stencil designs, spray paint the cardboard piece with whatever color of COLORSHOT Spray Paint you like! Once it’s completely dry, center your stencil over the top (taping in place if needed). Or if you aren’t using a stencil, here’s where you can use a chalk pencil to sketch your design before painting, or jump right in to freehand painting!

Use your paintbrushes and COLORSHOT Acrylic Paints to apply your chosen colors of paint to the stencil designs. You can also use COLORSHOT Paint Markers for this step! Let dry and add a second coat if desired, and once completely dry, remove the stencil (if using).

Write answers to questions with Paint Markers

Write answers to questions with Paint Markers

If you plan on saving this sign as a keepsake, you can write your child’s answers to the questions directly on the cardboard with the design, or you can save the sign for each year and write their answers on the frame glass with an erasable marker. That way you can change it out year after year with new responses!
